The developers could have decided to make it more interesting but instead they decided to play it safe. In many ways, I find the terrain in Beyond Earth to be really lackluster in its design. That is not the only problem with the game's terrain. In Civilization Beyond Earth, it is really hard to see what is going on. In Alpha Centurai, the game had very nice distinguishing colors making it easy to see what was going on on the map. The alien terrain was simply a bunch of grays and browns, which made it hard to see. When I started playing Civilization Beyond Earth when it came out, I was amazed at how dull the game looked. The game's terrain needs to be more exotic
#CIV BEYOND EARTH 2 PC#
Due to the niche nature of PC gaming at the time, there was more of a reason to take chances with complex philosophical ideas in a video game. I don't know there was something about games that were released around that time. In that game, the factions and the ideas surrounding them were more interesting and intriguing. If they are going to make a game like Beyond Earth again, the developers should take inspiration from Alpha Centurai. I still enjoy playing it but the game simply lacked the narrative spirit that drove Sid Meier's Alpha Centurai to great success. Instead we got something that was half-baked. Civilization Beyond Earth could have been a genre-setting game. They were more interested in playing it safe than trying to make a game that would define a generation. What was the great mistake really about? How did it affect the factions in the game? Why are the factions so boring and all look the same? Honestly, I believe that Fraxis had some good ideas but they held back on being more expansive with their ideas. At times, it seems that the game was being too conservative with its narrative. However, the game does not manage to create a narrative that feels alive. This event is supposedly what happened in the game's narrative past and led to the creation of the factions that we see in the game. The game's narrative centered around the great mistake that occured. The game at times felt like it was just Civilization V in space, which was not what I think the developers had in mind when they were planning out to develop this game. There was a sense of what drove humanity to colonize the stars but this was entirely clear and had some confusing aspects. There needs to be a more unified vision in the game's narrativeĬivilization Beyond Earth had elements of this. If you have any other desires that differ from my own, try to write a comment. Try to understand though, that this is my opinion. What can be added to the next game to make it a success and something that players want to play? I provide the answer with this list. That seems to be the case with many games these days they serve inklings of hype to get us interested, then when the game comes out, it seems to be not that interesting to play. Unfortunately, it seems that the developers of Beyond Earth were more interested in playing it safe than making a game that would truly give a sense of awe towards it. The game also had a very interesting atmosphere that lended itself to being a very immersive and fun game to play. It had interesting factions that had intriguing stories to them. The Alpha Centurai game that was released in 1999 was a remarkable game in many ways. They were expecting a game that was more akin to Sid Meier's Alpha Centurai than what we eventually ended up getting. However, the game was probably too conservative for many civ players. I enjoy playing Civ games that have a science-fiction theme to them and this one of the more intriguing aspects of the game. I believe that the game has its flaws, but it is still worth playing. Many are eagerly awaiting Civilization VII but Civilization Beyond Earth deserves to be remembered and not forgotten by the community. Civilization Beyond Earth is one of those type of games that has been forgotten by the Civ Community.
